NorthStar Services of Valentine is
one of the newest and smallest NorthStar programs. We provide services
to people with developmental disabilities in the “Heart City”.
We began providing services in November 2002. The office and Day
Services Center are located at 324 S. Hall Street. We own a duplex,
in which 4 individuals reside. The rest of the individuals live
in apartments, own their own homes, or live with family members.
Our main focus has been on supported employment. We
serve 18 individuals and 14 are competitively employed or volunteer
at local businesses.
We employ 23 staff at the present time. Along with
supported employment, we provide supports in community living, integration
and networking, daily living skills, health and safety needs, and
so much more.
Most of the individuals we serve have lived in Valentine
for many years. They are involved in many local clubs and organizations,
and attend most functions the city has to offer. We love to commemorate
any and all special events and holidays but Valentine’s Day
is a very special day in “The Little City with the Big Heart”
and we celebrate along with the high school, senior center and nursing
home by crowning a king and queen of hearts.
