NorthStar Services in Oakland has
served this area for over 25 years. They assist people in reaching
their goals from several surrounding communities including Oakland,
Lyons, West Point, Macy, Tekamah, Craig, Wisner, and Scribner.
Special Olympics
This year the Oakland Special Olympics Team participated in track
and field and bocce ball. The Area 4 Special Olympics Track and
Field meet was held in Columbus. Our team did great.
The state meet was in Omaha at Benson High School.
Everyone did themselves proud by winning many medals and ribbons.
Mike Barger placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash and third in the softball
throw. Mary Wilkins won a gold medal in the 100 m. dash. Sly Rouse,
Mike Barger, Jeff Werner, and Kellie Brainard placed 6th in the
4 x 100 meter relay.
In the bocce ball tournament at the Abbot Sports complex
in Lincoln, Mike Barger sang the national anthem. Steven Baldwin
won a gold medal in bocce ball while Mike Barger placed third. Many
other medals and ribbons were won by other members of the Oakland
Special Olympics Team.
