NorthStar Services in Fremont began providing supports to individuals in Dodge and Washington counties in January 2002. Although the supports provided vary depending upon what is wanted or needed, our main focus in Fremont has been Supported Employment services. NorthStar Services-Fremont does not have a day service setting where people meet or work on a regular basis. Currently, NorthStar Services-Fremont is providing employment supports to 15 of the 26 persons served by the area program. Eleven are employed in the community and several volunteer for various community organizations.

NorthStar Services-Fremont was the recipient of the Distinguished Quality Award for 2002 by the Nebraska Chapter of AAMR (American Association on Mental Retardation). This award is presented each year to one community program which provides meritorious person centered services. NorthStar Services-Fremont is much honored to have received such an award and strives each day to continue providing quality services to the people we support.

NorthStar Services supports people with:

• Locating volunteer opportunities which allow the person to contribute to the community   and/or enhance employability
• Locating appropriate, affordable housing
• Home maintenance
• Personal care
• Developing relationships
• Participating in the community
• Finances
• Arranging transportation
• Health Care
