NorthStar Services is an agency which
provides community-based services to people with developmental
disabilities throughout Northeast Nebraska. The organization
is governed by County Board members from the 22 Northeast
Nebraska counties it serves.
The agency, formerly known as Region IV Office
of Developmental Disabilities, has been in operation as an
interlocal agency since July 12, 1974. At the Governing Board
meeting on February 20, 1997, a motion was made to establish
two additional entities, Region IV Inc. and NorthStar of Nebraska,
Inc. The organization then assumed the name of NorthStar of
Nebraska, Inc. on January 16, 1998. An amendment entered into
on July 1, 2000, renamed the agency Region IV, NorthStar.
On September 20, 2001, the organization chose NorthStar Services
as their official name.
NorthStar Services currently employs approximately
625 employees in nine Northeast Nebraska Area Programs. Within
these areas NorthStar serves approximately 400 individuals.
The newly constructed NorthStar Services, Central
Office, was completed in April of 2004. The building provides
nine offices, one computer room, a work room and two conference
rooms. The CEO, Fiscal Analyst, Payroll Accountant, Accounts
Payable Accountant, Services Accountant and Regional Secretary’s
offices are housed within this facility. The Program Specialist
is housed in Fremont, the Director of Program Development
is housed in Columbus along with the Director of Health Services.
In addition, the facility has one motel room to be used by
staff members who travel to Wayne for training and meetings.
